As Australia’s largest city, Sydney is full of luxury lairs and fancy foxholes, so we don’t blame you if you get a little overwhelmed every now and then.

To make your next weekend escape a little easier to select, we spoke to a few of our favourite influencer talents to find out their favourite high-end hideouts when the rush gets too hectic.

OUR PICK

Hotel Palisade

35 Bettington Street, Millers Point, Sydney

Meghan & Dominic Loneragan, @citizensoftheworld

Hotel Palisade feels more like a story than standard accommodation. By that we mean it invokes the energy of Sydney, both old and new, revelling in the charm of its locale in historic Millers Point. Federation fixtures meets modernity in each of the nine Sibella Court designed rooms and you leave feeling like you learned a little bit as well as utterly relaxed. By far the best part about staying is taking advantage of those incredible top floor views across the harbour from the hotel’s Henry Deane bar.

The Old Clare Hotel

1 Kensington Street, Chippendale, Sydney

There are so many beautiful hotels in Sydney and depending on my mood (business trip vs social) I can change up my choice. I love both small boutique and grand OTT hotels, but for me it comes down to “where do I know I’m going to be comfortable”. And for that The Old Clare is my go-to. The rooms are design focused but functional and the beds are cloud-like. The space is quiet and it’s close to some incredible cafes and restaurants, so every time I’ve visited I’ve had a good time. There are probably “cooler” hotels, or more luxe in Sydney, but The Old Clare has a mix of comfort and aesthetic without being pretentious, which makes it a reliable favourite.

57 Hotel

57 Foveaux Street, Sydney

My fave Sydney hotel is actually 57 Hotel, on Foveaux Street. I love it’s central location and foyer perks, such as free Minties. They also have a very quirky password for their wifi (I better keep that a secret!) and have stunning views of the city. Their rooms are perfect for the traveller who only has a few days in Sydney and their rooms are seriously cool, the interior wows me every time. Also the rooms have cool names – mine was “Dancing Queen”. Love those little things, they make such a difference.

Ovolo Hotel

6 Cowper Wharf, Woolloomooloo, Sydney

As far location goes, it doesn’t get much better than Ovolo Woolloomooloo. The former Blue Hotel is exactly what the doctor ordered for Sydney. A quirky, fresh, lighthearted approach to luxury with some fantastic inclusions for guests including the complimentary mini bar and complimentary drinks and canapés from 5-7pm every night in the main bar. I love the loft rooms at Ovolo, there’s a sense of grandeur with the additional space. From the rooms to the common areas the whole hotel is vibrant and funky – it’s the ultimate balance between work and play.

Primus Hotel Sydney

339 Pitt Street, Sydney

Joe Vuong, @heygents

heygents.com.au

Primus Hotel Sydney is a five-star hotel that has been beautifully crafted out of the former Sydney Water Board HQ, a magnificent 1930’s piece of architecture. As the building was not constructed to be a hotel, everything is a touch larger than you’d expect from a hotel. This establishment has a modern art deco vibe that carries from the lobby through to the rooms.

The staff are very friendly.  The culinary highlight of this place is that they serve a Gentleman’s high tea – think High Tea with all of the ceremony and service that accompanies it, but swap out the dainty cucumber sandwiches and cupcakes for sliders, oysters kilpatric, fried chicken and mini meat pies… A High Tea tailored to gents.

QT Hotel

49 Market St, Sydney

Amy Hamilton, @amy_frances

My favourite hotel would be QT Sydney, I’ve been lucky enough to stay in the state suite which is a stunning space. What makes QT special is it’s design and eclectic interiors, every inch is definitely a creatives paradise.
